Bestr Steering Committee 2/5: Carla Casilli, IMS Digital Credentialing

Carla Casilli , previously BadgeAlliance Director, is now Interim Executive Director a IMS Digital Credentialing.

Open badges are both an open source software tool and a conceptual approach to recognition of learning. Developed in conjunction with the open source community, they help to capture learning whenever and wherever it occurs. Open Badges can serve many purposes, e.g., acknowledging skills and abilities, capturing prior learning, building community, highlighting community of practice interactions, indicating personal experience and affiliation, etc.

And Bestr is an organization operating on the cusp of great change in education. 

I’m particularly fascinated by the possibilities for expanded learning recognition that it introduces into the Italian education system, as well as its potential for influence in the larger European community of learning.  

As an original member of the Mozilla open badges team, I look for opportunities to participate in and support work that advances the entire open badges ecosystem. I’m betting that Bestr can help to further the open badges work in Italy and strengthen the larger, global open badges movement. 

So, with that in mind, I am pleased to function in a variety of capacities, e.g., consultant, advisor, cheerleader, guide, subject matter expert, and systems thinker.

I am also pleased to be participating in such august company alongside the brilliant minds and hearts of my other board members and the Bestr colleagues.
